Dear Subscriber,
Welcome to another edition of the Texas Art Depot Newsletter. The John Paul Strain show has come and gone and it was another resounding success and already April and I are planning other events. Look for something big with Disney this year, but in the meantime, let's do another newsletter. Mike Johnston - Texas Art Depot
| Jesse Barnes- The Light Painter |
 |
Last Christmas, one of the most popular artists we know officially retired from full time painting and producing limited edition art prints and canvas. Throughout the past years Jesse has created works for such organizations as Ducks Unlimited, Hallmark Cards, American Field magazine, and The Bradford Exchange. In 1999 Jesse was honored to create a Limited Edition Collectors Print for the Salt Lake City Olympic Committee. This piece was commissioned by Fine Art Ltd. of St. Louis and proceeds went to benefit the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.
To date, Jesse has published over 50 Limited Edition Collectors Prints. His first edition entitled "Night Before Christmas" was released in 1983. Jesse has not, however completely quit painting, as his newest piece is officially sanctioned by the Olympic Games in China. Jesse Barnes, the Light Painter, is noted for the sharp contrasts in light and color that have earned him note worldwide. The signature owl can be found in virtually everything Jesse paints and his fans can't wait to see his newest works to find the owl.
The good news is we've still got a pretty good inventory of Jesse's works and they'll be hard to find when they're gone. Jesse's prints and canvas have done well on the secondary market and his editions are selling out pretty fast, and with very few new ones coming, you better get yours soon. "Midnight Passage" pictured above is a classic example of the sharp contrast and beautiful landscapes that have made Jesse Barnes one of the best loved artists for many years.

| Texas Artist Larry Dyke is a Classic |
 |
Larry Dyke has devoted his life's work to the interpretation of the beauty he beholds in nature. His success as one of America's most loved artists is proof of his distinctive ability to create a scene that captivates the imagination of the viewer. Dyke's genius lies in his construction of intricate settings that even the novice art lover can appreciate.
A Native Texan, Dyke began painting professionally in 1976. His first Lithographs were released two years later and today he has produced more than 100 limited editions and a number of open edition prints. Many of these images were sold out shortly after release and all of Dyke's limited editions are now actively sought after by collectors.
Larry's subjects are varied including National Parks, far away places, famous golf courses, and of course the Texas Hillcountry. Every painting he creates carries a related Bible verse below his signature. "When I became a full-time artist, I was impressed to put a scriptural notation on each of my paintings," Dyke states. "It is an expression of what I think the true answer to life is."

| Wildlife Artist Carl Brenders Paints Nature! |
 |
|
Carl Brenders' love for all creatures, from the friendly to the ferocious, is evident in his masterful attention to their every detail; nothing is overlooked. With his imagination, Brenders is able to get close enough to wild animals so that he can almost feel their textures. Consequently, his work has a tactile reality, giving us the sense of having been where even the most intrepid of field guides have not ventured. Of this ability Brenders says, "A painter is a privileged being, because in his imagination he can come very close to the animals he paints. In reality, one can never come this close to wild animals, particularly if they are predators."
Brenders' insistence on anatomical perfection in his paintings stems from his philosophy that nature, itself, is perfection: "That is why I paint the way I do with so much detail and so much realism - I want to capture that perfection," he says.

Featured Artist ~ Howard Terpning |
|
|
|
Howard Terpning was born November 5, 1927, in Oak Park, Illinois, birthplace also of Ernest Hemingway. Now 80 years old, he's the most successful living artist in America, and probably the world. Name any other living artist who has sold brand new originals at auction last year for more than a Million dollars each. Howard's prices speak to his popularity as last year a world record for Mr. Terpning's work was set at the Coeur d'Alene Auction in Reno Nevada when his 1981 "Search for the Renegades," an epic five-foot-wide oil painting depicting the Army cavalry's pursuit of Geronimo and his men, sold for $1.46 million.
He was educated at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the American Academy of Art, Terpning went the apprentice route to work his way to New York and commercial illustration. Having built a successful career in advertising illustration, he gave it up in 1976 and moved to Tucson to become a western painter, and in just a few years he won the respect and admiration of his peers, and a vast following for his works. In 1976, he walked away from a successful illustration career to pursue his dream of chronicling the Native American people. Within two short years he became one of the giants in his field.
It's now, no wonder, that his prints and Giclée canvas reproductions are among the hottest sellers in the limited edition art world. Howard's Giclées are selling out signed and numbered edition sizes of around 250 to 300 pieces with prices that hover between $1500 and $2750 each depending on their size and edition, and these prints on canvas are doing very well on the secondary art market. "Grandfather Prays to Sun" is pictured above and is available at Texas Art Depot, along with the others featured on our site. But be aware, they don't last long. The Howard Terpning Portfolio.... |
