Charles Brooks Biography Continued

...school, his first job landed him in West Texas, deep in the heart of ranching country with working cowboys where he was surrounded by ranches such as the Matador Ranch, Pitchfork, 6666, and many more.

Charles met and married his wife, Kathy, in 1960.  Their lifelong passion has been traveling the Southwest and visiting art galleries.  This, along with living in ranch country, has been his training to be an artist, thus self-taught.

After going back to school at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Charles took a job with Goodyear and moved the family to East Texas. They now reside in Whitehouse, Texas, where they owned and operated an art gallery for five years. He sold the galley and started traveling to art shows exhibiting his wood sculpture about six times a year. After retiring in 2000, Charles, again, took up the pencil and now devotes the majority of his time to pencil drawing. His favorite subject is the cowboy and his horse.

Since retiring from the corporate world, Charles has been exhibiting in twelve-to-fourteen shows each year.  He has exhibited all across the southwest, including Prescott, Arizona, Great Falls, Montana, Wichita, Kansas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Kerrville, Texas.

Charles and Kathy travel back to West Texas several times each year to visit with family and friends.  Some of them are working cowboys on area ranches, so these trips always include the camera to record scenes and activities in “Real Cowboy Country.”
