Greg Alexander Artist Biography

Greg Alexander Biography Continued:

...Equally comfortable with a range of wildlife subjects, Greg Alexander jumps with ease from fin to fur to feather and back again. Committing at least a third of his time to field research and reference photography, accuracy has become a trademark of Greg Alexander's work. "Anatomical correctness is essential, but for me it is only part of what I strive for in terms of accuracy.I want to reveal something about the personality of each species and not merely paint portraits."

Discipline and hard work have paid off for Greg Alexander. The winner of nine conservation stamp competitions, today he is rightly considered one of the country's finest wildlife artists. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, he is basically self-taught as a wildlife artist.

He and his wife and two daughters live in northern Wisconsin where he revels in the idea that there is more wildlife and landscape within a short distance of his home than he can paint in a lifetime. He works from photographs of landscapes in which he places birds and animals. His painting was featured on the 1997 Wisconsin Pheasant Stamp. He is also active in conservation.
