First Light by John M. Barber ~ Stand aboard a working Chesapeake Bay Skipjack – just off Thomas Point Lighthouse near Annapolis, Maryland. Another such vessel, “Ralph T. Webster,” build in 1905 is seen ahead. With only a few boats still dredging oysters today, these are the last fishing vessels to work under sail in North America. Countless sailboats fished the Bay when this famous lighthouse was built in 1875. |
