2002 Texas Turkey Stamp Print by John Dearman ~ A lone Rio Grande gobbler on the prowl is a vision to thrill spring turkey hunters. Spring is a season when Texas is cloaked in her Sunday outfit of verdant green and spring gobblers will readily answer the call of a breeding hen. Texas has more wild turkeys than any state and copper-hued Rio Grande turkeys are dominant. Sales of Texas Turkey Stamps and Prints funded the largest eastern turkey restoration program in history. Eastern turkeys disappeared from Texas shortly after the turn of the 19th century. Today, East Texas spring woods are once again reverberating with the calls of this magnificent bird. John Dearman is a leader in Texas conservation art. Since 1990, the Lone Star native has contributed art for Texas Waterfowl, Quail, Nongame, Turkey (twice) and Saltwater (twice) Stamps. In 2002, Dearman adds to his legend with both the Turkey and the Saltwater Stamp art. |
