Wetlands - Pintails by John P. Cowan ~ "Although painted in 1984, this picture shows how we hunted sprigs in Rockport in the early 1970s. We had no airboats to reach our remote blinds, so we would go as far as possible by outboard and struggle the rest of the way through mire and muck, dragging decoy bags and other gear. This could well be Mud Island. This scene was painted in Tennessee, probably the result of an acute wave of homesickness for Texas. I still consider it one of my better aerial-concept pictures. I never knew the buyer, but he's bound to be an old, salty sprig hunter with wild stories that can parallel or surpass my own." - John P. Cowan |
