Without this remarkable animal, whole areas of upland Britain, renowned as sheep rearing areas, would be impossible to farm, even with today's technology. The setting is springtime in the Pennine uplands of Lancashire, my home county. This area is noted for its miles of dry stonewalls which are seen in the foreground." - Steven Townsend
